ESET unearths a supply-chain attack against an Android emulator for PC and Mac – ESET research into malware targeting HPC clusters – How to prevent at least some zero-days

ESET researchers disclosed details about a supply-chain attack that they named Operation NightScout and that compromised the update mechanism of NoxPlayer, an Android emulator for PCs and Macs. Also this week, ESET experts published their findings about malware that they named Kobalos and that has been targeting high performance computing (HPC) clusters, among other high-profile targets. Meanwhile, Google’s Project Zero team found that 6 out of 24 zero-day exploits detected in 2020 could have been prevented had the vendors issued proper patches for the underlying security flaws.
