This is all very similar to how boot sector viruses spread using floppies back in the day.

The on board av is cool and will help greatly. But at the end of the day USB infections will always be persistent until the technology is ultimately replaced by something new. Much like boot sector viruses went away with the extinction of floppies drives. (Certain Rootkits outstanding)
