It wouldn’t be the first time non-existent malware was used to hype a product, though the corruption angle is more unusual. But Rising claim that the whole story is part of a dirty tricks campaign. Either way, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever know the full story.

It seems more likely that they had bribed the official to report a fictitious virus, in order to try to frighten people into buying their product.

After all, any AV vendor can detect a real virus. But only the original vendor can detect a fictitious one!
